The MixLab

The MixLab is an electronica music community and audio remixing contest built for Intel's Pentium III WebOutfitter service during the summer of 1999. To get the MixLab up and running, we asked Cibo Matto, DJ Spooky, George Clinton, Coldcut, DJ Swamp, Money Mark, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and a number of other world class DJ's, producers and musicians each to donate a set of audio samples to the site. Members of the MixLab community download the samples, remix them with user-friendly audio editing software called Mixman Studio FX, and then upload their original, finished remixes to the MixLab Jukebox. At the end of the summer we handed out a prize to the MixLab member who created the remix that the judges and other community members judged to be best.
