Comments
Having read many of Aaron's comments (as well as works by other transportation activists), I have come to realize the great intellect and experience which we have among our supporters.
I would like to respond to a recent article. Regarding the comment on Juan Estrada and Victor Flores who were crushed by a truck. One thing that I have learned (as Aaron commented) is that Dept. of Transportation engineers care nothing about human (specifically pedestrian/bicycle) lives. However, if you speak in terms they understand, then you can get some interest. I spoke to an engineer about a road which is very dangerous, and happens to be the only access across the river. Instead of saying the lack of a shoulder causes risk for me. I told him that because there's no shoulder, I take up the entire lane, which means that no traffic can pass me for the half mile length of the bridge. THAT, caught his attention. If we make it clear that an 'accident' will tie up traffic and cause rubbernecking delays, we can make a better argument for intelligent transportation.
